Multi-million tranche allocated for Indigenous housing in Nova Scotia – Mortgage Broker News

Nova Scotia has signed an agreement to further support Indigenous housing with the renovation of dozens of urban housing units in the province.

The pact, which was cemented in early March, will set aside $3.7 million as funding for the repair and revitalization of 36 rental units owned and operated by the Tawaak Housing Association.

Under the National Housing Strategy, the sum will also help with the maintenance of existing affordable housing programs and rental rates with 51 rent supplements, CTV News reported.

“This agreement will provide the means to make necessary improvements and will work towards creating sustainability of the housing stock for the future. A lot of work remains to be done, but this agreement shows true partnership and is a strong step in the right direction,” Tawaak Housing Association chair and Glooscap First Nation Chief Sidney Peters said.
