Notice of Commencement for the Phase 2: Connecting 17 Remote First Nations Environmental Assessment

Notice of Commencement and Public Information Centre

Wataynikaneyap Power L.P. (Wataynikaneyap) is conducting an Environmental Assessment (EA) under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act and Section 67 of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.  The project being assessed is the Wataynikaneyap Power Project, Phase 2: Connecting 17 Remote First Nation Communities.  Phase 2 of the project is comprised of 1,500 km of new transmission lines and associated facilities, and will connect 17 remote First Nation communities north of Red Lake and Pickle Lake to the provincial grid (see map below).

Today (September 26) marks the official start of the EA with the release of the Notice of Commencement and Public Information Centre (the Notice).  English, Oji-Cree and Ojibway versions of the Notice are available at the links below.

Upcoming Engagements

Wataynikaneyap will be holding meetings at First Nation communities in the coming months, and Public Information Centres in Pickle Lake and Red Lake in October (see below).  These meetings will be opportunities to share information on the Project, the alternatives considered, environmental considerations and the approvals process.
