Premier raises Yukon priorities with Canadian leaders

Press Release

Premier Sandy Silver is in Toronto and Ottawa this week for a series of meetings with fellow Canadian Premiers, federal Ministers and the Prime Minister. The Premier’s discussions will focus on climate change, clean energy, infrastructure investment and healthcare.

Today, Premier Silver is attending the Council of the Federation meeting of Canada’s Premiers to address issues of national importance and opportunities for collaboration among all provinces and territories.

Following the Council of the Federation meeting, the Premier will join members of his caucus and Yukon First Nations Chiefs to share joint priorities in a series of bilateral and trilateral meetings with the federal government as part of Yukon Days.

Correction: A previous version of this release stated that the Premier met Sunday evening with his territorial counterparts. This meeting did not happen due to unforeseen flight issues.

Through these conversations we are able to gain support and understanding from our fellow provinces, territories and the federal government on issues that are important to Yukoners. Our engagements in Ottawa will be our first face-to-face meetings with the new federal Cabinet and we are glad to have the opportunity to make our priorities known so early in their mandate. I look forward to discussing with my colleagues how we can work together to benefit Yukoners, northerners and all Canadians.
