Teepee challenge about more than just construction – Brandon Sun


When Brandon’s corporate teepee challenge returns in the lead up to National Indigenous People’s Day on Friday, it will be about more than the mechanics of how to put up the structure.

Jason Gobeil, Aboriginal community co-ordinator with the Brandon Urban Aboriginal Peoples’ Council, said it’s also about the interpersonal skills it takes to successfully get it standing.

“It’s as simple as looking at teamwork, it’s as simple as looking at respect, love, sharing — those types of simple, basics teachings that we have all learned our lives. … When you really see that teepee put together, when you think of all those poles that hold those beautiful teachings of value and you put a family in there — Wow, now that’s a family that’s raised within values.”
